Gifts Candles started with a simple, annoying problem: every gift guide ranks the same designer candles by price, not by how good a gift they actually make. We wanted a ranking built around the moment someone opens the box — the scent, the vessel, the keepsake, the value.
So we buy the candles ourselves, burn them in real rooms, test the fragrance throw and burn quality, and weigh up the packaging and presentation. We keep the honest downsides in, and we crown the candle we'd genuinely give first. Right now, that's Lumond.
The five criteria we score
Fragrance quality
Cold and hot throw, how true and balanced the scent is, and whether it fills a room without becoming overpowering.
Burn performance
Even melt pool, minimal soot and tunnelling, wick behaviour, and total burn time for the money.

The vessel, the box, the unboxing — how giftable it looks straight out of the package.
Value for money
What you actually get for the price: burn hours, fragrance load, and whether the vessel is worth keeping.

A few very expensive designer candles are lovely, but at their price the burn time and presentation don't give a recipient meaningfully more than several picks here, so they didn't make our top ten for gifting this year.
